BECOMING A CONTRIBUTOR

What sells on Hawaii Stock Images?

1. Content that communicates a universal theme. Your photo, vector or video clip should immediately & easily communicate a single concept for the viewer.

2. Content that’s usable. Do your best to avoid distractions in your photos, vectors or video clips. Keep things like backgrounds, props, and costumes clutter-free.

3. Content that is geared for the Hawaii-based community. As you know, photos, vectors and video clips that illustrate concepts professionally and creatively are low in supply and high in demand.

Do I still retain the copyright to my content?

Absolutely and always. You are just utilizingHawaii Stock Images’s platform to license your content.

How do I start uploading my photos, vectors and/or video clips to Hawaii Stock Images?

We’ll review your work and get in touch if we’re a fit. Once you’ve been invited, it’s as simple as clicking the “Accept” button and filling out the required info.

What’s the “required info”?

The required info is your basic information such as Name, Address, Phone, Email, Bank Account or PayPal info, etc. You will be asked to accept our Contributor License Agreement and our Terms of Use. You can read those now if you’d like by clicking on their respective links. You’ll also need to fill out and send us a IRS Form W-9 . What if I have the content I’m uploading to Hawaii Stock Images at other stock or distribution sites? Can I still upload it?

Yes you can. Just understand the royalty percentage is different for non-exclusive INDIE Contributors. Non-exclusive INDIE Contributors earn 20% less of the royalty that an exclusive PRIME Contributor would.

How much can I expect to earn?

That’s a tough question to answer. Our top contributors, who upload Hawaii-focused content every week are expected to realize four-figure royalty payouts every month. Other contributors uploading consistently every month can typically make three-figure royalty payouts.

Contributors who upload few and far between, can expect to see a royalty payout every four to six months. It’s like anything else; if you put more into it, you will get more out of it. Because our customers are desperate for quality Hawaii-based work, the potential for you to make meaningful income is attainable. We see it happen every day with our current contributor base.

SUBMITTING PHOTOS

What are the technical requirements for photos?

We’re asking for photos that are a minimum of 8.0 megapixels. An easy way to figure out the pixels in an image is to multiply the width by the length (3600 x 2400 = 8.64 million pixels). Also please make sure there are no watermarks, signatures, type, or borders on the photos–and go easy on the filters.

Why do you require photos to be in .ZIP files?

We want to keep your files safe from thieves…especially the clever ones. Each file resolution must be zipped individually on your desktop before you upload anything.

What about the grid thumbnail and featured image…how do I watermark it?

Simply upload your lowest resolution (72dpi) .JPG file and we’ll handle the Watermark. Pre-watermarked or images with signatures will be declined.

Do I need to tag and keyword my photos when I upload them?

Nope. It has been our goal all along to make the act of contributing as easy as possible. If you wish, Hawaii Stock Images will tag and keyword all of your content. Literally, all you’ll need to do is drag and drop your files onto our uploader and click the “upload” button. We’ll take it from there.

Can your uploader handle uploading resolution files at once?

Yessiree. Simply drag and drop all your files onto the different designated upload regions and let it go to work. Go take a nap, read a book or fly a kite. When you get back, your files will be done. We’ll take care of everything else. We’ll send you an email when your files are approved and live on the site. In that email we’ll also let you know if we rejected any of your content.

Do you require me to write a title or description of the photo?

No. Hawaii Stock Images can handle that for you. If you wish, you can make changes to the descriptions we set for your content after the fact.

Why are you asking for the ‘story’ of a photo and is it required?

Many of your photos will have a unique story behind them that only you can tell. It’s certainly not required, but we love when our Contributors choose to add depth to their content. Customers appreciate it too.

Is your review process automated?

No. All content uploaded to Hawaii Stock Images is personally reviewed by a curator. They will be looking at its technical and stylistic aspects. Some photos may be fine from a technical standpoint, but may not fit Hawaii Stock Images stylistically. Keep that in mind.

Can the VIMEO uploader handle uploading multiple video clips at once?

Yes. But I wouldn’t go over 10 video clips at once. Many times browsers can crash during an extended period like that. You will receive an email letting you know when your files have been approved and when they are live on the site.
